Superb! April 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just wanted to say that for me, this book was superb. It answered many questions (some I didn't know I had!) and I've come out a better (more satisfied) woman.
I know this is a brief review, but I wanted to pass on my positive thoughts.
a wonderful and helpful book! January 25, 2001 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
while this book contains no amazing "miracle techniques," it does a wonderful job making you feel more comfortable with yourself and your body, and also helps you realize that you are, after all, HUMAN. and not all humans react the same way, nor should they. and to comment on another woman's very negative review of this book, she misquotes ms. barbach and leaves out the KEY passages. the paragraphs about the fantasies involving children take up at most one page, and the whole point of them is to encourage you to go ahead and HAVE the fantasies, but NOT to act them out. it's like exercises to try to overcome certain fears - simply do the thing you're afraid of and you won't be afraid of it anymore! if you have these fantasies over and over, soon they lose their initial excitement, and you will move on to something else. she does NOT encourage you to go ahead and have a sexual relationship with your children!!!!!!!! simply having fantasies never hurt anyone! so, i recommend this book to anyone having difficulty reaching orgasm, or just anyone female at all!
An ever-helpful classic for the sexually inhibited woman July 23, 1999 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
There's a reason this book continues to be reprinted and available 27 years after its first publication! For women who have never connected with their own sexuality, who see sex as something they do for their partners and not for themselves--and, yes, there are still many women with these attitudes in 1999, despite the sexual revolution--this is just the best book available. In my 20 years as a sex therapist, I have never recommended this book to a sexually inhibited woman who has not found it thought-provoking.
so far so good April 13, 1999 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
this book was recommended to me by my physician. I am 25 and have never experienced an orgasm. this book is teaching me that I cannot expect anyone else to know how my body works, what I like. For the first time I am experimenting with mastrubation. I still have not had an orgasm, but I am much more comfortable with my body, self confidant and willing to experiment. I have not yet finished the book, but "so far so good"
The authors need some biology lessons. March 27, 1999 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book is not very clear, and lacks some knowledge of human biology/sexuality that you can get by taking a class. Furthermore, the text is sometimes unclear and overly wordy. There are certainly better books out there on this topic.
